About Us | Home

Animal Critical Care

The cornerstone of our practice is critical care.

We realize that for many of the patients that visit us, time is of the essence. In order to make the most efficient and informed diagnoses possible, we have an in-house lab that allows our doctors to quickly assess key blood values, such as electrolyte status, acid-base balance, and coagulation.

Having an in-house lab also means that patients’ bloodwork can be routinely monitored throughout their stay, allowing for immediate therapy adjustments as needed. In addition, we maintain an impressive pharmacy to help ensure that our patients have immediate access to the medications that they need.

We are also able to provide intravenous (IV) fluid therapy, Oxyglobin® infusions, and plasma and blood transfusions. The IV therapies are delivered by infusion pump via an IV catheter (just as in human medicine), which allows close control over the infusion rates. In addition, Intensive Care Units are available for those who need heat and/or oxygen supplementation along with constant supervision. In the hands of the experienced ECA staff, such capabilities allow for the early detection and effective reversal of many common complications of the seriously ill.

Our staff also benefits from communications with a large network of consultants. The ECA staff is connected via cyberspace to national experts in all veterinary specialties. We routinely consult with a spectrum of board-certified specialists.

SOUTH CENTRAL WISCONSIN’S FIRST MOBILE CRITICAL CARE TRANSPORT  UNIT FOR ANIMALS

ambulance

We have a new and exciting service for South Central Wisconsin.  ECA has put into service a mobile crtitical care unit to add to our services to the public and referring veterinarians.  The refurbished   ambulance is equipped with a piped in oxygen system, electronic monitoring equipment, cages and kennels to aid in transporting sick and wounded small animals.

The mobile critical care transport unit is designed to transport patients between primary care, referral and specialty practices while continuing treatments (pain medications, anti-anxiety medications, IV fluids, oxygen, etc) en route.

The transport team is not designed to run out on emergency calls from the public.

Consistent with ECA's dedication to minimizing our impact on the planet, our ambulance runs on soy diesel purchased from Prairiefire Biofuels.
